Stykman & Millertime at The Ballpark

A Night Under the Lights
No Madden?? PLAY BALL!!!!

Wilmington, DE - Right where Interstate 95 blows right by Wilmington, Delaware there is a Minor League Ballpark called Frawley Stadium. It is the Home to the Wilmington Blue Rocks, the Single A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. But for one night it was the home to the Springfield Sox.
Stykman and Millertime play for the Springfield Sox in the Delaware County (PA) Men's Senior Adult Baseball League (MABL/MSBL). Stykman #17 is a pitcher, and Miller #30 is the team's starting SS/2B and Leadoff hitter. The Sox play a team in the league that has the ability to get this particular facility all to itself for a night. With a real feel, this night included music, in between innings, an announcer, and fully functional scoreboard. And Styk even brought his son along, wearing his alternate uniform, so he could be the team's Bat Boy. The Miller children had other ideas, "As I walked onto the mound and took a glance up at the crowd, it was a little intimidating...you know, the stands were PACKED...with all of Ted's Kids.", Stykman explained.
As for the Game, the Sox broke out with 3 runs in the 3rd inning, and then Millertime helped add to the lead with a few base hits, a stolen base and a few runs scored. As a matter of fact Miller has been Lighing it up all season in the field and at the plate. He is a front runner for Rookie of the Year, as this is his first season with the team. Stykman came out stong, and held that lead. Styk threw a Complete Game with 5Ks, and gave up 0 Earned Runs on 5 hits, as the Sox cruised to victory 11-3.
Styk and Miller will be playing thier regular season games until the first week of August and then the playoffs start. We'll keep you updated on thier progress.
So what are all the rest of you doing this summer, with barely any Madden in your lives?
Below, Styk and his Son, Bobby, take a break from the game to peek out of the dugout to smile for Mrs. Stykman. And after the game's final out Little Bobby brings his Dad Congrats and the Game Ball.

Around the League: Weeks 3, 4, & 5 |
The Good
Rams (4-0): The Rams are arguably the team to beat in the NFC right now. They remained undefeated as they squeaked by the Texans 20-10, and then pasted the Bills 34-14. The average height and weight of the WR corps of the Rams is 6’3” 230lbs. Add bulldozing HB Jackson to the mix, and this is one of the most punishing offenses in MEGA. Opposing CBs and LBs better find their HGH.
Redskins (5-0): The Redskins were another team that made noise in their divisions in Weeks 3, 4, & 5. Tagged as Game of the Week (Skins vs. Giants, the Skins rebounded from a slow first quarter to score 28 points in the 2nd. They hold on to beat the Giants 35-24. Then in Week 5, the Skins bullied their rival Cowboys 41-14. The Skins are averaging over 400yds on offense with QB Campbell throwing up MVP numbers. In Week 4, Campbell gutted the Ravens for 6 passing touchdowns and 400yds for a 49-21 victory.
Bears (4-0): The Bears finish sweeping the Packers in Week 4 38-9. Their next step was a 30-0 rip of the Colts. Rookie WR Marshall Jones continued to tear it up with 4 catches for 129yds. The Bears have some key games ahead against the Rams and the Vikings.
Chargers (3-1): Coming off his best MEGA performance in Season XX (13-3), Coach Luis and his Chargers are poised for an AFC West championship repeat. The Chargers sweep the Chiefs 26-0, and 31-20. This made the 3rd division win in a row for the Chargers, placing them comfortably on top of the AFC West.
Raiders (3-1): In Week 3, the Raiders squared off with the then undefeated Dolphins. Palmer and Bennett struck early, and the Raider D swarmed, shutting down the Phins in a 37-3 rout. The Raiders then went to Tampa and ran wild on the Bucs for a 48-35 victory. HB Hawk had a career day with 221yds rushing.
Vikings (4-1): Playing superb defense, the Vikings win 3 straight and move to 4-1 in the NFC North. They outlasted the Titans 17-13, won a grind in Carolina 16-7, and then held off the pass attack of Jay Cutler for a 34-21 victory. Much of the Viking’s success is due to their voracious pass rush attack, averaging 5 packs per game.
The Bad
Saints (0-5): The Saints’ defense is apropos of its crescent city: a whorish place that takes very little to score. Opposing offenses are averaging 38.8 points per game against this winless team.
Patriots (0-5): While the Saints’ red-zone is as wide open as Britney Spears these days, the Patriots are unable to find any holes to penetrate with their offense. In fairness, the Pats have fought hard in their games, losing relatively close games to the Bills and Phins. But the offense dregs on the bottom in MEGA, averaging a mere 10 points and 211 total yards per game.
Steelers (2-2): It’s hard to believe that this is the team that beat the Raiders in the season opener, and then squeezed the Ravens in Week 2. The Steelers were blasted by the division rival Browns 37-0 in Week 4, and then only managed a FG against the Broncos in a 34-3 loss. In the two games, the Steelers managed only 297yds on offense with less than 100 of those being on the ground. The Steelers will need to get back on track, face a tough 3 game stretch in Weeks 6, 7 & 8 to do so.
Eagles (0-5): If the Eagles can claim anything right now, it’s that they are the best team without a win thus far. Their offense is productive, but the Panthers, Cardinals, and Falcons all found ways to squeak by the Eagles with a winning margin of 7 or less points. Coach Arty usually plays a tight defense, and as soon as he gets it going, this team could turn things around.
49ers (0-4): This is another team that is playing well but can’t find the W. The 49ers, under the new management of Coach Chuck, have faced some tough opponents but it won’t get any easier for these guys down the road. If unable to get over the hill, the next 3-game run could put the 49ers out of contention early in the season.
Defensive Battle of the Week
Vikings vs. Panthers (WK4): Both teams had less than 200yds total offense, the Panthers with a mere 117yds. The Vikings rushed at the Panthers 42x, but only managed 96yds.
Offensive Shoot-Out of the Week
Bucs vs. Raiders (WK4): 997yds of total offense in this shock and awe display of offense. Strangely, the Bucs, who traditionally sport one of the better rush defenses were gouged for 264yds by the Raiders. The Raiders, usually stingy on pass defense, were splayed for 402yds.
Woodshed Beating of the Week
Browns vs. Steelers (WK5): The Steelers managed a meager 100 yards against the Browns. Big Ben only completed 9 passes while being picked 3 times. The Steelers never scored, never made it into the redzone, and moved the chains only once on 3rd down. |
