AFC NORTH
Bengals (5-3)(3-1) - With a season split against Baltimore, the Bengals are going to have to keep pace to win the division. Carson Palmer is still playing great football, but looked terrible in a bad loss to the Dolphins.
Stud:Primary target Chad Johnson 35-972 10 TDs has benefitted from Palmer's hot arm.
Dud:Chris Henry (14 catches, 8 drops) needs to lay off the crack pipe.
Big games remaining:Colts
Ravens (6-2)(2-1) - Baltimore seems to have caught fire, winning their last 5 ballgames. NewJack's crew is winning with an offense to match his always potent defense. The rest of the schedule is pretty easy, so the team should be playoff bound.
Stud:Jamal Lewis seems to have hit the rejuvination machine. 5 YPC and 10 TDs so far.
Dud:Not to wake a sleeping dragon, but Mr. Ed Reed has only 20 tackles and 0 picks
Big games remaining:Dolphins, Raiders
Steelers (4-5)(1-3) - A good win over Miami, but a few bad wins make the Steelers what they are. The remaining schedule is much tougher, but the always tough Steelers could be a late spoiler.
Stud:Willie Parker is gettting the job done this year. Props to Big Ben for solid numbers as well.
Dud: - Darrell Jackson (15-176 0 TD) is better than this.
Big games remaining:Rams, Texans, Jets, Ravens, Bengals
Browns (3-5)(1-2) - The Browns have won games they should, and lost others they should. Still, it's easy to see they are improving. Marcus Jackson continues to shine, but unless things turn around, he could demand a trade. The rest of the schedule is tough.
Stud:WR Marcus Jackson will continue to get his numbers, but it's not enough
Dud:No one has been awful, but Frye does have a lot of interceptions.
Big games remaining:Jets, Ravens(x2), Bengals
AFC EAST
Bills (2-6)(1-3) - Buffalo has fallen on hard times this season forcing Polo to trade away QB Rocky Barker. It may be a high draft pick season as tough games still loom.
Stud:London Fletcher is still getting it done. McGahee and Thomas are a nice 1-2 punch at RB
Dud: The pass offense has been a disaster.
Big games remaining:Jets, Ravens, Redskins, Dolphins
Jets (4-4)(2-1) - Holy Crap! The Jets may have found a QB. A trade for former Packer Aaron Rogers has seemed to turn things around for the Jets who have won 3 of their last 4, and the schedule gets lighter.
Stud:Vilma continues to produce, and Tim Winters is off to a very fine season.
Dud:Jerrico Cotchery (18 catches, 9 drops) needs some new gloves.
Big games remaining:Redskins, Dolphins
Dolphins (6-2)(3-0) - Miami has benefitted from an easy schedule early on, but a 42-21 dismantling of the Bengals tells us this team is for real. They do have a tough road ahead though.
Stud:RBs Ronnie Brown and Marcus Mason might be the best combo in MEGA. (17 TDs combined).
Dud:The two losses to the Giants and Steelers are ugly.
Big games remaining:Ravens, Jets, Broncos, Colts, Redskins
Patriots (1-8)(1-3) - Finally, Coach Anj broke through. After a long drought, the Pats finally broke into the W column with a win over Buffalo. The story as always is offense, but maybe Anj is slowly figuring this thing out.
Stud:Bruschi and Freeney are still monsters on D.
Dud:This spot usually reserved for Tom "I need therapy" Brady
Big games remaining:Eagles, Titans
AFC SOUTH
Colts (6-2)(2-0) - A good first half marked by 2 tough losses and a couple narrow victories. The AFC champs are in the driver's seat again for a division crown.
Stud:Manning to Harrison never gets old.
Dud:Reggie Wayne would like a TD too.
Big games remaining:Texans, Bengals, Buccaneers
Texans (4-4)(2-2) - The Texans are a middle of the pack team who expected to be higher. A tough schedule still looms, but Charlesman has been known to play better as the season goes on.
Stud:Domanick Davis (798 yards, 8 TD) is having an All-Pro year
Dud:This team drops A LOT of passes. Carr would be much better if they'd hold on to a few.
Big games remaining:Colts, Raiders, Saints, Broncos, Falcons
Jaguars (3-5)(1-2) - A killer schedule early was highlighted with wins over Denver and New Orleans. The Jags road is average, and need to show something against Indy to be a contender in this division.
Stud:The offensive balance has been good, and Maurice Jones-Drew is one of the best all-purpose threats in the league.
Dud:John Henderson seems to have lost a step (2 sacks)
Big games remaining:Colts, Falcons, Texans, Panthers, Jets
Titans (2-6)(1-2) - The Titans are better than their record would indicate. They have played tough in a number of their games so far. The remaining schedule is tough, but the team looks good for the future.
Stud:Vince Young has been MUCH improved over last season and still has room to grow.
Dud:LenDale White seems to have lost favor with this team's coaching staff.
Big games remaining:Colts(x2), Falcons, Buccaneers
AFC WEST
Broncos (7-1)(2-0) - Another successful first half for the Broncos. The question here isn't if this team is good, it's what they will do in the postseason that matters. The end of the schedule is tough, but the Broncos will be playoff bound.
Stud:Jason Vargas and Tatum Bell are on fire. This team is very well balanced on both sides of the ball.
Dud:Champ Bailey is awfully quiet this year
Big games remaining:Bears, Raiders(x2), Dolphins, Packers, Texans
Chiefs (3-5)(1-2) - A bit more losses than expected have caused a QB carousel in KC. The Chiefs are behind in the division, but they are good enough to threaten any team on their schedule.
Stud:The ageless Ty Law (7 INTs) leads a tough D
Dud:Penn State products Tamba Hali and Larry Johnson aren't playing well so far
Big games remaining:Raiders, Broncos
Raiders (6-2)(1-0) - Beating good teams, losing to good teams. The Raiders are poised to challenge Denver for the division crown. This team should be dancing in the postseason.
Stud:The O shows excellent balance, and Bruce Gordon is a stud on D
Dud:Fabian Washington has no INTs
Big games remaining:Texans, Broncos(x2), Ravens
Chargers (2-6)(0-2) - Luis's Chargers have fallen off as of late, and the brutal opening schedule hasn't helped. They still have the potential to be a spoiler though.
Stud:Jeff Franklin and Antonio Gates have strong numbers, as does Quentin Jammer.
Dud:The defense hasn't scored much, and it's usually better than this.
Big games remaining:Broncos, Raiders(x2), Vikings
